Metadata are “data about data” and generally include:
- The source of the data
- The date the data were generated (or obtained from a specific source if the data are undated)
- Explanatory information to enable someone to understand/interpret the data
A Mass Nature database record contains the following types of data:
- Name and Classification
- Status in New England
- Biology/Ecology
- Habitat
- Associated Species
- Photos
