Metadata are “data about data” and generally include:

  • The source of the data
  • The date the data were generated (or obtained from a specific source if the data are undated)
  • Explanatory information to enable someone to understand/interpret the data

A Mass Nature database record contains the following types of data:

  • Name and Classification
  • Status in New England
  • Life History
  • Habitat
  • Associated Species
  • Photos

To find a record for a particular taxon, click on the link for the taxon on the relevant web page or use the search feature.
